3 Important Things To Know About Therapy

Taking the step to get therapy is one of the most courageous and healing decisions you can make for yourself. I know therapy and Mental Health are things that many people are talking about right now, and many are interested in, so I want to take a moment and share 3 important things to note about therapy and its process so you are more equipped stepping into this realm.

First of all, therapy is a process, and you have to trust that process.

Therapy is NOT a quick fix; it takes time, and you have to be okay with that. The issues and challenges you’re coming to therapy with didn’t necessarily happen overnight. They took time to develop so they are going to take time to work through. It may look and feel messier than you would like or were anticipating, but you aren’t navigating it alone - your therapist will be there for you!

Secondly, therapy requires you to truly show up and put in the work if you want to see progress.

Your therapist is not there to do the work for you; you’re coming to therapy because you want to heal and because you more than likely want to improve your life in some way. This means, you have to approach therapy through a lens of dedication, commitment and consistency. Your therapist will come and do their best to show up for you in the healthiest ways possible, and, you also have a part to play. Therapy isn’t easy and sometimes you won’t like it, but if you don’t put in the work you won’t see positive progress.

Lastly, every therapist won’t be a good fit for you, and that’s okay. There are so many therapists out there and every therapist won’t fit for every potential client. As the client, it’s important that you feel comfortable and safe with your therapist. If you don’t, it makes the therapeutic process much more difficult than it needs to be. Remember that finding your best fit may be immediate, or it may take a bit of time - be patient with the process and don’t give up on it. You and your healing are worth the pursuit! ✨

If you’ve taken the step to get therapy, I seriously commend you and I commend your courage to do so! You deserve healing, you deserve wellness, you deserve to become your best self! ♥️
